In its ongoing efforts to protect the country's online community, Cyber Security Brunei (CSB) has taken an enormous step to fight against all cyber threats. The Minister of Transport and Info communications, Dato Seri Setia Shamhary, said that CSB has successfully suspended 1,023 dodgy websites meant for deceiving people to share their sensitive information.

The dodgy websites used cunning ways to gain access to the personal and financial information of an individual. But, thanks to the relentless work of CSB, those websites have been taken down and made unable to cause harm to innocent persons.

At a forum, the minister presented some of the statistics to show how many cybersecurity incidents have been reported in Brunei. A total of 957 incidents have been reported by the public since 2023. This was alarming news and showed that individuals are still not given proper education on cybersecurity.

The CSB has been trying tirelessly to be always ahead of cyber criminals to bring down dodgy websites to prevent further harm. One of the effective approaches is through collaboration with domain registrants. The agency collaborates with this kind of registrant to request the suspension of these malicious sites, which prevents them from causing further damage.

Apart from suspending dodgy websites, CSB has its experts in the National Digital Forensics Laboratory with 728 media items processed. Out of these items, 257 have been involving specialized services like mobile, desktop, and network forensics.

These experts use some of the best world-class, cutting-edge technologies in digital forensics to analyze digital evidence and help law enforcement tackle cases concerning cybercrime.

Indeed, CSB is one of the agencies in which Brunei places its highly vulnerable expectations. Being its main cybersecurity agency, the others entail the Brunei Computer Emergency Response Team (BruCERT), Cyber Watch Centre, National Digital Forensic Laboratory, and other agencies to coordinate a national effort against cyber threats.

The CSB seeks to create a culture of awareness and responsibility using cybersecurity with the general public and other stakeholders through various initiatives and partnerships. Together, we shall secure a safer online community for our future years.
