SolarWinds is a global leader in IT management software, known for delivering solutions that prioritize simplicity, power, and security. Founded in 1999 by two IT professionals, the company was built on the principle that complex IT challenges should be solved with straightforward, intuitive tools.
This philosophy continues to guide the organization more than twenty-five years later. With its headquarters in Austin, Texas, SolarWinds supports organizations navigating hybrid IT and multi-cloud environments, helping them modernize, optimize, and secure their digital operations.
Mission, Purpose, and Values
SolarWinds grounds its identity in a clearly defined purpose: to enrich the lives of the people it serves. This includes customers, employees, partners, shareholders, and the communities connected to the company’s work. Its mission is to accelerate customers’ digital transformation by delivering solutions that remain simple, powerful, and secure while addressing the growing complexity of modern IT ecosystems.
These commitments are reinforced by core values that shape SolarWinds’ culture. Collaboration is central to how the company works, emphasizing strong relationships and celebrating shared successes. Accountability is equally important, encouraging individuals and teams to take ownership of their actions and results.
SolarWinds values readiness, maintaining a culture of continuous learning and adaptation. Empathy is also a defining trait, inspiring team members to listen carefully, understand different perspectives, and respond thoughtfully.
Product Portfolio and Technology
SolarWinds offers a unified platform designed to give IT teams visibility and control across increasingly complex digital landscapes. Monitoring and observability serve as the foundation of its capabilities, covering networks, infrastructure, databases, applications, logs, and digital user experiences.
These capabilities are available in both SaaS and self-hosted deployments, enabling customers to choose the architecture and security model that aligns best with their needs. Artificial intelligence and AIOps technologies are integrated throughout the platform, allowing teams to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve performance issues with greater efficiency and accuracy.
Database management and observability represent a major area of focus for SolarWinds. The company provides tools that help administrators monitor, diagnose, and optimize database performance in on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.
By transforming raw performance data into actionable insights, SolarWinds helps organizations prevent downtime and ensure that business-critical applications run smoothly. Incident response is another pillar of its platform.
Through Squadcast by SolarWinds, organizations can strengthen operational resilience by correlating events, routing alerts efficiently, and managing on-call processes. These capabilities support faster response times and more consistent workflows during IT incidents.
SolarWinds also delivers comprehensive IT service management solutions. Its ITSM platform includes service management, asset management, a configuration management database, and enterprise service management capabilities. With AI-driven automation embedded throughout, SolarWinds helps service teams improve efficiency, reduce manual workloads, and enhance user experiences. The company also continues to offer trusted tools and utilities, including the Engineer’s Toolset, Kiwi Syslog Server, Network Topology Mapper, and secure file-transfer technology, expanding its reach across the IT professional landscape.
Customers, Community, and Market Presence
SolarWinds serves a diverse global customer base that includes small businesses, large enterprises, managed service providers, and public sector organizations. A notable measure of its reach is the adoption of its products by 84 percent of Fortune 500 companies, demonstrating its reliability and relevance in mission-critical environments. One of SolarWinds’ defining strengths is its robust user community.
The THWACK® community, which includes more than 200,000 members, provides a dedicated space for IT professionals to exchange ideas, troubleshoot challenges, and contribute feedback that influences future product development. This ongoing dialogue with practitioners reinforces SolarWinds’ long-held belief that effective solutions should be shaped by the needs and experiences of real users.
Recognition and Industry Impact
SolarWinds has earned significant recognition across the IT industry. In 2024, the company received awards from the Stevie International Business Awards, the SC Awards, and the FedScoop 50 Awards, reflecting its continued innovation and leadership.
That same year, SolarWinds introduced a series of AI-enabled enhancements across its ITSM, database, and SaaS observability products, underscoring its commitment to evolving alongside the needs of modern IT organizations. Additional accolades from CRN, CSO, and the Fortress Cybersecurity Awards further highlighted its impact on the industry.
Financial Performance and Strategic Milestones
The company reported strong financial performance in 2024. It generated $796.9 million in revenue, representing a five-percent increase over the previous year. Recurring revenue accounted for ninety-four percent of total revenue, a sign of the company’s strong subscription-based business model.
SolarWinds recorded net income of $111.9 million and achieved $384.7 million in adjusted EBITDA, with a margin of forty-eight percent and double-digit year-over-year growth. In April 2025, SolarWinds reached a major milestone when it was acquired by Turn/River Capital for approximately $4.4 billion. This acquisition transitioned SolarWinds into a privately held company and positioned it for a new phase of operational focus and strategic evolution.
History and Evolution
SolarWinds celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary in 2024, marking a significant milestone in its journey from a startup founded by two IT professionals to a global force in IT management. From the beginning, the company distinguished itself with a philosophy of “relentlessly listening” to its customers.
This approach helped SolarWinds develop intuitive, practitioner-driven products that addressed real-world IT challenges. Over the decades, the company expanded its product ecosystem, broadened its global footprint, and strengthened its presence across both enterprise and public sector markets.
Looking Ahead
SolarWinds continues to invest heavily in artificial intelligence, automation, and flexible deployment options. Its future strategy centers on delivering operational resilience across complex hybrid environments, enabling organizations to detect, respond to, and prevent IT issues across networks, applications, databases, and service workflows.
With a robust platform, a thriving community, and renewed strategic direction as a privately held company, SolarWinds remains well-positioned to shape the future of modern IT management.
